Nonesuch

Well i just made a awesome new dish that has pull out peices. I am going to add some texture and im exited to see how it turns out! My next peice that i want to work on is a lidded dish. With very rounds sides and some sort of round and knobish handles. My set of casserole dishes are fired. One of the pieces has weakish handles, so that one will just occupy the shelf. I really need to start up on glazing and photographing. Time is just flying by. Between all the song writing and such with Rhombii, skiing, and school, I dont have the much free time. Here are some new ideas that i wanna tryout.

Back From Break

Getting back into art, from winter break, is tough but im starting to get back into the flow of things. We have three projects due at the end of the month! I threw a bowl today that i am going to add texture too. I threw it thicker than normal so i can carve into it. also my square casserole dish was fired. I need to start making lids, but i have never done it before, so it will be a challenge.

Scholastic Photos

Here are three of the of the four projects i submitted to scholastic. It took me alot longer to upload them than i thought, but it hopefully i get some awards! Im also working on putting up a gallery on the blog... but im technology challenged so its slow going. This week i put handles on the three casserole dishes i did last week. I want to glaze them with falls creek shino.

Christmas

Christmas time is coming and my time for making presents is running out. I am making casserole dishes for christmas presents. So far i have made three (which is sadly probably im going to make). I also made a square casserole dish because my knob handled one broke! It all good though. Im not quite sure what glazes im going to use. I think i will glaze the christmas presents with falls creek shino. And also here is me putting up the art poster and empty bowls poster in river grove elementary.

Pressing On

So now that i have finished all of my project for december, i have been working on photographing and glazing. I made a new glaze called mellow yellow. I plan on using it on my round, tunnel-bottom dish. My knob handled dish just went in three kiln, but i still need to figure out what im going to glaze it with. Also, scholastic is coming up! So i need to edit and re-photograph some stuff (becuase i forgot to put a penny in the picture to show scale). But for glazing, i want to use earthy, warm, and comforting colors. Like red, orange, yellow, brown, and black. Here are some pots that i like the glaze of.

Almost Done

So now that i have settled on a concentration (serving platters), i have been chuggin along. I have one of my peices (the basket handled one) in the wood kiln. Tommorrow we are unloading it!... i hope it turns out ok. I finishe the knob handled one and a new one that i started yesterday. This time i used pendelton red instead of umpqua white. I was surprised about how much i liked the change. I really like handbuilidng and throwing with it (even though it is a bit gritty). All of my dishes will probably be made of this clay. Since we have so much school off, i just thought i would start early. So pretty much, i have no deadlines to really worry about. But what i do need to work on is photographing for scholastic art awards!

Starting

Here is a platter that i have started. It is for my concentration. It is going to have knob handles and some sort of texture. Yesterday I loaded the wood kiln. I was going to have my layered platter go in the firing, but it broke in the bisque kiln. So just my basket handled casserole dish and a large bowl went in. I need to remake the layered platter, which wont be hard, its just kindof a bummer. But i have learned from the past not to get too attached to your projects because there is always a chance they will break (especially when dealing with clay). But all in all, im just pumped for starting my concentration and glad i have a head start. Since Amy will be gone for second semester, there wont be any more wood firings. So i will be making some glazes. I want to use glazes that have tan, orange, red, brown, and black in them.
