These are two platters I made. The one with the basket handles was originally going to be a casserole dish, but after i made the hanldes, i realized that i had cut the sides (so the dish is no longer usable for casseroles and such). I made the dish by throwing a bottomlesss cylinder then attaching it to a rolled out slab. The second platter is made out of layered pieces of clay. When i started making it, i wansn't quite sure if i liked it, but the more i work on it, the more i like it. I want to make some more platters and wood fire them (if there is enough room in the kiln). But making these got me thinking about my concentration. I really enjoy the mix of handbuilding and throwing. My ideas for my concentration are: plates, incongruity (the lack of appropriatness. ex. a hammer made out of clay or a umbrella made out of metal), or platters. hmmmm...
I really like the way the handles flow on the piece above, and it looks like a really comfortable piece to carry.
ReplyDeletei love your platter thing on the bottom! you should woodfire it for sure.
